New Updates on Survivor: Cagayan

It appears as though the attorney Kassandra McQuillan and the woman who used to be in the Navy are the same person, and she has been confirmed by True Dork Times to be on Survivor, on the Brains tribe.
Kassandra McQuillen

Two other names have been floating around on Reddit and Survivor Sucks today:
  • Michelle Yu, a Realtor, came up on a Reddit thread today, but TDT's Jeff Pitman has confirmed she will not be on the show, and he's been accurate so far.
  • LeTish Weekend, a Student, was first talked about on Survivor Sucks, but Sucks posters quickly shot that down as well.
Also, True Dork Times's reaction to the "confirmation" of Anthony Tedesco led people to believe that he may not actually be the correct person; with Samson's and MacQuillen's revelations, their pictures were quickly posted to TDT's Survivometer, but Tedesco's name is still not there.

Finally, CBS released some pictures of the torches, immunity necklace, and tribal council for Cagayan today, and they all look awesome.

                                       Tribal council

You can see the rest of the pictures here. Aside from showing off the really cool artwork (I really love the necklace this year), these pictures confirm that the tribe colors are purple, orange, and green (actually a light teal/mint that can barely be classified as green; but it's new, so it's good).

Hopefully we'll get some new revelations within the next few days; either a name, some more pictures, or a full cast reveal. Either way, talk to you soon.

Greatest Player Rankings, Part 3

#13: Bob Crowley
                                                      File:Bob Kota.jpg
I feel that Bob is often hugely underestimated, partially because of his season. Gabon, although it is generally thought of as one of the poorer seasons, is actually really great; the cast is hilarious, the location is unique, and the challenges were awesome. It just had the unlucky position of airing right after Micronesia, widely considered one of (if not the) best seasons ever.

But on to Bob. The oldest winner, and the oldest player on Gabon (I think he's older than Gillian), it seemed like Bob wouldn't stick around too long at first, since he wasn't really involved in the strategy of the other Kota members, but with all the tribe swaps, he became invaluable both in terms of a number against the Fang, and to help win challenges.

At the merge, Kota was picked off one by one until only Bob was left (and Susie, but she was basically Fang). However, Bob had an incredible 5-challenge win streak (3 immunities), and combined with his two incredibly realistic fake idols (who can forget them?)...
                                                       Bob fake idol 1
...along with a great social game, which ingratiated him with Sugar, Matty, and Susie, he was able to make it to the Final Four, where he was savvy enough to convince Sugar to force a tie, even though he was such a huge threat to win the game...which he eventually did. Definitely a smart player and I wouldn't mind seeing him back, although I doubt that will happen.

#12: Malcolm Freberg
                                                     S26 Malcolm Freberg
Malcolm is definitely my favorite Survivor (very close between him, Penner, and Courtney, though), and although he certainly has flaws, he's a great player. On Philippines, he was able to create a strong alliance with Denise (and Russell) that saw him safely through four successive tribal councils. Once on Tandang, he was a huge force in the challenges that kept the tribe from going to tribal until the merge.

At the merge, Malcolm joined with the alliance of Denise, Penner, Skupin, Lisa, and Cater (that's a simplified version) to take out/flip the rest of Tandang. Even though he was a huge threat, he was able to get out the other threats before him (like Carter and Penner), and he lasted till the final 4. If Denise wasn't as good at Survivor as she is, he would have won Philippines, hands down; everyone likes him, he's strategic, he's athletic...perfect, no?

Well, not quite. He's a huge threat. People like him tend to be taken out right after the merge, which is why it's a miracle he made it so far. In Caramoan, we saw the rigors of Survivor taking their toll on Malcolm. Too eager for action, he quickly scooped up a group of fans and tried to make a big power play that really only ended up getting Phillip out. Don't get me wrong, he was fun to watch, but he probably made his move too soon. I feel like Malcolm is also lacking just a bit strategically; someone like Penner or Russell could have worked wonders with the triple immunity deal, but for Malcolm it only saved him for 3 more days.

However, he did one incredibly smart, awesome thing: Hold Up Bro!

#11: Denise Stapley
                                                   S25 Denise Stapley
If Malcolm is good, then I truly believe Denise is better. Just look at some of her statistics--the only person to ever go to every single tribal council, and she was never voted out! She only had six votes against her out of 14 tribals, and she only had individual immunity once!

This just shows her impeccable social game; everyone liked her, she was rarely targeted (and when she was, she had the numbers), and she wasn't as threatening as Malcolm. She stayed behind him, making a majority of the strategic decisions, and then when the time came, she cut him loose.

It sounds cutthroat, but this is how you win Survivor! On my list, I have her as the 4th best female winner of all time, and the 5th best woman to ever play the game. She is definitely underrated, and I would certainly not be opposed to seeing her return...where, dare I say it, I think she could win again!

New S28 Contestants Revealed

This is just a quick update; over the past few days, a flurry of activity has taken place spoilerwise (mainly on Survivor Sucks).

Earlier today, Local 10 Miami confirmed that the Miami Marlins baseball team president, David Samson, will be appearing on the show, an announcement that caught Sucks off-guard (something that doesn't happen too often). The revelation lines up with Samson's disappearance from the media last summer, and his name works out alphabetically on True Dork Time's cast list.
David Samson

Several days prior, Sucks posters (with some help from Reddit and True Dork Times) puzzled out the identity of Anthony "Tony" Tedesco, a New Jersey police officer, although TDT will not confirm the name like they did with Samson. However, all the clues line up.

Here's a picture of Tedesco testifying in court (on right).

And...I have some breaking news for you! Just a few minutes ago, a new Reddit thread revealed that Kassandra McQuillan will also be on the show...and excitingly, her name fits perfectly on the alphabetically list on True Dork Times (Sucks posters originally dismissed the name because "Cassandra" doesn't fit, although they thought she might have gone by "Sandy"). Since this was just revealed, there are no pictures of her,and nothing else is known about her except that she will be on the Brains tribe, as will Samson. Tedesco will be on the Brawn tribe.
EDIT: It's "McQuillEn" not "McQuillAn." There's a Californian attorney by that name, but a Sucks poster (and I) have also seen someone with that name on Facebook. Says she used to be in the U.S. Navy from 1990 to 2002, and she has the requisite posting gap between May and September; stay tuned for more news.

I'll post again if there's any new info before the official cast release, which some estimate could happen any day now. Last year the cast was released on the 11th, and the buffs for Cagayan will be available on the 12th. However, due to the Olympics, it is unknown exactly when the premiere date for the season will be in February, and some estimates place it as late as Feb. 26. In the past, cast releases have usually been about a month before the season begins, so we may have to wait a few more weeks (hopefully not).

That's all for now! I'll continue with my Top 20 Survivors list soon.

Greatest Player Rankings, Part 2

Alright, let us continue, shall we?

#16: Amanda Kimmel
                                                            S15 Amanda Kimmel
When you look at her stats like days played (108), individual wins (5), and average season placing (4.66), she looks pretty good. So why isn't Amanda higher up? Well, it has to do with her perception of the game.

First, perception. Both of her first two times playing the game, Amanda reached the Final Tribal Council and then completely bungled her speech and responses to questions. She did alright in China, but needed to be better than "alright" to combat Todd, who had the greatest jury responses of all time (more on that later). And in Fans vs. Favorites, Amanda clearly had no perception of how the jury viewed her. She envisioned, and tried to portray herself as a loyal, trusting member of an alliance (with James and Ozzy) who was forced to go along with the Black Widows, worked with them in the endgame, and then won the last two immunities. Overall, Amanda felt she played a more honest game than Parvati, and that's definitely true.

But it's not what the jurors wanted! While Amanda was the loyal, honest player, Parvati was the cunning, lying, backstabbing manipulator (again, more on that later) who was in control of the game, and the jurors rewarded her for it. Amanda only got the votes of the people she was going to get no matter what: Ozzy, who professed his love for her, James, and Jason.

I'm going to skip over Heroes vs. Villains, because I don't feel like she did anything notably good or bad, and was voted out in a respectable, but not great, 9th place. Comment below to tell me if I forgot anything important that Amanda did in that season, except for running like a fish.

But enough Amanda bashing! I did rank her as the 16th best player to ever play the game, after all. Because, for all her faults when she gets to the Final Tribal Council, she got there twice! Back to back! The only other player to do that (and coincidentally, also lost both times) is Russell Hantz, who we will be talking about later on.

Amanda certainly has a lot of assets as well; in both China and FvF, she won the final two immunity challenges, and was certainly the most athletic of her Black Widow alliance. She and Todd were able to control the game in China, and she certainly did something to convince Parvati to keep her the next season. So overall, Amanda is a very good player who will never win the game...and actually, she's quite similar to Russell in this regard.

#15: J.T. Thomas
                                                         S20 J.T. Thomas
J.T., the first guy to play a "perfect" game. He won the final three immunities in a row, pulled his little tribe of 3 to the end, and everybody loved him. So why (spoiler) do I have Stephen Fishbach ranked higher than him. Well, maybe this is true for many winners, but I think this guy was just lucky.

He was lucky to be in a merged tribe where EVERYONE loved J.T. Coach went out of the way to create the "Warrior Alliance" and Debbie was literally prepared to sacrifice herself so he could win, if necessary. So I feel that Stephen, who had to work to get to the end, deserves more credit.

But let's be fair to J.T. here; he played a great game. Everyone did love J.T., and that's at least in part due to his great social game. And physically, he was a challenge beast. As I said, he won three immunities, and he was also a dominant force in the tribal portion of the game.

However, coming back to Heroes vs. Villains against more experienced players who aren't all starstruck by him, J.T. soon found himself in trouble. After flipping back in forth between alliances, he was lucky to get into a group that stuck together, but was the first one out after the merge.

His move of giving Russell the idol was the 2nd dumbest play of all time (after Erik's immunity bungle). After, all, like Russell said (I'm paraphrasing here), "You never give an idol to the enemy. Especially when the enemy is Russell Hantz. I'm the greatest player of all tiiiiiime baby. I'm Russell Haaaantz." Ok so maybe he doesn't say that last part. At least, not then. We'll talk about Russell another time.

In summary, J.T. is socially savvy and physically fit but dumb when it comes to strategy, and without Stephen, he had no idea what to do.

#14: John Cochran
                                                        S26 John Cochran
The other Sole Survivor to play a perfect game, Cochran edges out J.T. by just a bit. Although he's certainly not a challenge threat by any stretch of the word (and the people who insist he is because he won 3 immunities are wrong; he had advantages in two of the immunity challenges, so the only 2 challenges he won fairly were the food challenge and the card stacking reward), but he is certainly a strategic mastermind.

In South Pacific, he was pretty terrible, I'll freely admit. Entertaining, but terrible. But in Caramoan, he started playing hard from the get go. Even in that first vote against Francesca, Cochran maneuvered himself and Dawn into the dominant alliance, keeping them happy and safe until the swap. He and Dawn, if you go back and watch the next two episodes, make some very smart strategic moves if you look closely.

On to the merge. I was impressed with Cochran's gameplay all the way through, even though I was heavily rooting for Malcolm and Reynold, and I was definitely sad when the Three Amigos were split up (though perhaps not as sad as this girl). Anyway, Cochran was able to overcome the opposition alliance, sending home Corinne, Michael, Malcolm, Reynold, and eventually Eddie.

Cochran's best moves, however, are the blindsides of Brenda and Andrea (although Brenda's oust was spearheaded by Dawn). Both times, the girls felt very confident, especially in the case of Andrea. It's not every day that someone is voted out with an idol.

By this point in the endgame, Cochran has gotten himself into a spot where he is pretty much guaranteed the win; there are no other worthy opponents. And he takes Sherri, who has done nothing the whole merge, and Dawn, who everyone hates, to the end with him. A very good showing by our friend John, and as said before, a perfect game. The only reason he isn't closer to the top 10 is that he never really made a huge move in the game...I suppose Andrea's blindside was good, but there was never serious opposition for Cochran to overcome.

These entries were long, so we'll continue with #13 another time. What do you think of my picks? Tell me what you think below in the comments. See ya later.

Survivor Cagayan Cast Spoilers

So this is the stuff you're actually here to learn about. Several different websites have already reported on this and are fairly certain to have spoiled 12 members of the cast. All credit goes to the great spoilers at Survivor Sucks, and you can see the thread with news about season 28 here...or I can just tell you about it.

Ok, so here's what we know.
  • There are 18 new castaways
  • They will be split into 3 tribes of 6
  • These three tribes are chosen by the primary attribute of the contestants, either Brains, Beauty, or Brawn
  • The tribe colors are orange, green, and purple, but it is unknown which color goes with which tribe.
  • The season takes place in the same region of the Philippines where Blood vs. Water was shot
Here are the 12 people that Survivor Sucks is reasonably certain will be appearing on Survivor Cagayan.Z5RrTa4.png
Some initial information that I've gleaned from reading the thread (I'll have to go back to find the rest of the information later); Jeremiah's a model, Garrett is a poker player, Clifford is a former NBA basketball player, Sarah is a police officer. Also, there's a rumor that Morgan may be a villain, but there's really no evidence of that.

From the looks of things so far, casting seems to have done a great job finding a diverse group of people to work with.

One other note: in one of his interviews with Entertainment Weekly, Jeff Probst mentioned something about changing up the way hidden immunity idols work this season. This was a while ago so they may not still be doing this but it's something interesting to look out for.

The cast reveal should come in a couple of weeks, and I'll post any more information that I find out before then; this looks like it COULD be a great season.

How do you think this season is going to go? Like/hate the twist? Comment below!
