Big Brother Canada Week 5 Recap

The past few episodes of Big Brother
Canada have been relatively tame.
First off, I apologize for my negligence in posting these last few days...I've been extremely busy and only just got to watch the live eviction tonight; I haven't even had a chance to talk to Ethan yet.

Fortunately/unfortunately, there is no Amazing Race this week, so tomorrow we'll do our audio recap of the most recent Survivor episode instead, and maybe even work in a feature article for you.

Alright...let's get into Big Brother Canada. (Image credit to Slice)

Compared to some weeks this season, the past few episodes of Big Brother Canada have been relatively tame. Once Canada became the HOH, it became fairly obvious that the First Five would be in trouble and it was likely one of their members would go home...and so he did.

I was definitely not sorry to see Andrew go, although he toned down his aggressiveness once it became clear he was leaving the house this week. And unlike with Ika, Big Brother did not see fit to include a stellar twist like the letters to keep things interesting. That being said, there were still some good moments.

The Veto competition was the only real way that Andrew could have secured his safety this week, and with half of the competitors throwing it (good for their individual games, maybe, but no one is going to be stunned or suddenly targeting Adel or Neda if they win a math POV), he had a chance.

Jon saved the day and
won the POV.
Fortunately for us non-Andrew fans, Jon saved the day and won the POV. Unsurprisingly, he chose not to use it, leading to Andrew's eventual oust. There was a little scrambling here and there, with Andrew talking to Arlie and Jon making some false promises, but nothing really became of it.

I did feel a little sorry for Andrew occasionally, though. Thinking about it, being nominated by your entire country really would feel pretty awful. It seems like eventually he came to terms with it and deduced that Canada was merely targeting his alliance, which is partially true.

Let's move away from Andrew now and talk about some of the players who are making moves in the house this week.

Everyone trusts Arlie.
We have to put Arlie at the top of this list...he is playing wonderfully, and is really exciting to watch. If you've been reading my recaps since the beginning of the season, you know how much I love Neda, but she has a much more quiet game, so it's refreshing to see Arlie making obnoxious confessionals and then proving to us that he can really do what he says.

Everyone trusts Arlie, it seems. He still has good connections with the remains of the First Five (mainly Kenny and Sarah) but is really heading the opposing alliance...although if you didn't know, you'd think Jon was in charge. If he wins the HOH this week, he's going to have some explaining to do when he nominates his former allies, but barring that, I think Arlie can sail through another few weeks at least before people realize what a threat he is.

Kenny revealed to Sarah
that he's gay.
The only major event that occurred on Thursday's show was Kenny revealing to Sarah that he's gay. Of course we as viewers knew this all along, but it was an interesting move on Kenny's part to tell one of his fellow Houseguests.

I have mixed feelings here. On one hand, by entrusting Sarah with his secret, Sarah and Kenny seem to be closer than ever, and I don't think Sarah would go blurting things out to the rest of the house. But once he's told one person, I feel like Kenny is liable to reveal his secret to more and more people; you can see how much stress he's under and how hard a time he's having inside that house.

If Kenny can keep it under wraps, though, he can continue up his flirtatious game, which really is helping him out. Getting close to Rachelle can never be a bad thing, because we've seen how easy it is to manipulate her, and being friends with someone who might win HOH is a definite plus. We'll have to see how long Kenny can last.

Jon and Neda are becoming too obvious.
The other thing I noticed on Thursday's show was how close Jon and Neda are getting...and how obvious they are about it. When Sabrina called Neda out on it, Neda tried to play it down as "just friends" and not game-allies, but when the seeds of suspicion are there, it's hard to uproot them. If Neda and Jon want to survive further in this game together, they're going to need to make it clear they don't care if the other is evicted, and pretend they're each closer to someone else in the house than each other.

I think that's it for this week, so let's take a look at my weekly updates on each Houseguest. I'll tell you what I said about them last week, as well as what I may have seen this week and whether it's changed my mind on them.

Adel
What I said: "[Being friends with Ika] probably made him Public Enemy #1 with the First Five. Hopefully Adel can forge a new alliance and take control, or he's toast."
What I saw: With a little help from Canada, Adel emerged from the bottom to take out Andrew. Now that he's in the majority alliance, I think he's safe, especially with his emergency POV.

Now that she's on the
bottom, we may see her
emotions run even higher.
Sabrina
What I said: "Sabrina truly is a master manipulator, but her emotions are getting the best of her, and I'm ready to see her go."
What I saw: I was actually happy Sabrina stayed this week. Say what you will about her...she's good at this game...I think. When playing from a powerful position, Sabrina was able to control the house. Now that she's on the bottom, however, we may see her emotions run even higher.

Jon
What I said:
"He should be able to ride this out and could be in a great position if he can topple the First Five."
What I saw: And topple it he did. Jon's on the top of his new alliance, which really isn't where you want to be. He's fine for now, but eventually people are going to be looking at hi
m as a huge threat.

Kenny
What I said:
"I think he's determined to hang on to the First Five for as long as he can."
What I saw: After all this, I still like Kenny, but I think he's been outfoxed by smarter players like Arlie, so his time is numbered. If it stays New Alliance vs. Rachelle, Allison, Sabrina, Kenny, Sarah...then Kenny is probably the next to go.
First Five is no more!

Andrew
What I said: "Hopefully he leaves soon."
What I saw: First Five is no more! Finally the first person I'm glad to see leave since Anick.

Allison
What I said: "She's certainly very smart, and I think she can survive the week easily."
What I saw: She's going to have a tough time in the house now that Andrew is gone. Not making friendships or alliances with anyone else is really going to hurt her. That being said, I don't think Allison is the first target of the Underdog alliance.

Sarah
What I said:  "Let's see more of Sarah; she's great."
What I saw: Still a really fascinating and intriguing player...but Sarah is on the outs of the house now. Her best bet is to buddy up with Arlie, Heather, etc. and backstab Kenny to survive a few
more weeks. She needs to completely sell herself out like Aaryn did to Helen last year.

Heather
What I said:
"Heather's position in this game is now clear: she's a pawn, and a vote for whoever wants it."
What I saw: Heather continued playing the pawn this week and is now in the e
mploy of the new  alliance. Do your job, Heather. Also, give some more confessionals...you're actually funny!

Keep it quiet, Neda!
Neda
What I said: "Hopefully we see more of Neda's and Jon's alliance."
What I saw: Ok, I didn't
mean that much of their alliance! Keep it quiet, Neda! Hopefully she throws the rest of the HOH comp this week and continues playing under the radar. Still love her, though.

Rachelle
What I said: "I'm really hating cold-hearted Rachelle at the moment...just because I didn't want Ika to go.""
What I saw: Similar to Heather, Rachelle is a pawn...only, for the other side of the house. She'll go along with whatever Sabrina wants and I have 0 interest in Rachelle anymore.

Arlie
What I said:
"Arlie is definitely the funniest...I hope to continue seeing Arlie in the future."
What I saw: Even if it doesn't last very long, I'
m ready to see an Arlie-run house. I think he has what it takes to make it to the end if he can keep his many alliances in check.

Alright, that's it for this week's recap. Tomorrow we shall finally get to our audio scrutiny and on Monday, it's back to Big Brother Canada, so stay tuned!
