Heather should have gone with her original plan and backdoored Kenny. |
We left off Sunday night's episode with Allison and Kenny nominated for eviction. Kenny won the Veto spelling bee, which featured such high-level words as "Crest" and "Shocked." This is why Heather should have gone with her original plan and backdoored Kenny...not that it ended up mattering anyway.
Sarah's cheering after Kenny's win supposedly led to her demise, but I'm not totally sure that's so. I think that Sarah was going to be nominated no matter what she did; it seemed odd that people blamed her nomination on the cheering when the alliances were pretty set in stone already.
Speaking of set in stone, the new majority alliance solidified this week by naming itself the Sloppy Seconds. Really? As far as alliance names go, Sloppy Seconds is no Chilltown...or even a Quack Pack or a Sheyld or a Moving Company. Even Quattro and the Exterminators beat out Sloppy Seconds. But the name doesn't matter; the Sloppy Seconds are doing their jobs.
Arlie also picked a definitive side this week, telling Sarah he had betrayed her, which really was the right move to make. She already basically knew, so dragging it out any further would just have led to further hard feelings.
Allison only has one more chance to play her Veto. |
On the surface, the Secret Veto seems really good, but it's only usable for three votes, and two have already passed, right? Unless they don't count the Double Eviction, Allison only has one more chance to play her Veto, and unless Rachelle or Sabrina win HOH or POV this week, she shouldn't need to.
Neda ultimately refused Sarah's deal. |
Ultimately, I think Neda made the right play, because keeping Sarah, although it would have bought them the (possibly temporary) allegiance of Sarah, Rachelle, Sabrina, and Kenny, would have made Arlie, Heather, Allison, and possibly Jon mad at her. Sarah's right that Neda and Jon are going to become a huge threat in the coming weeks, and I worry for their safety, but it's still just a little too early to go against the alliance you just made.
I don't see any way that Jon and Neda are going to be able to stay safe in this house for much longer. Now that the First Five has been dismantled and only Rachelle and Sabrina remain in the minority, the Sloppy Seconds are going to begin to cannibalize themselves sooner than they should, and Neda/Jon are the prime targets. A gamer like Arlie isn't going to let them sit around and vote him out eventually when he can get rid of them while he has the chance, which is why I hope Jon wins HOH this week.
After realizing that Arlie had flipped, Kenny had basically run out of options. |
After realizing that Arlie had flipped, Kenny had basically run out of options, but he definitely still fought hard to stay in this game. Coming out to the entire house was a questionable decision, though. It may have felt good for Kenny to get the weight of a secret off of his chest, but it could have made the whole house more suspicious of him. Rachelle, certainly, vowed to be more wary of Kenny in the future. Again, it didn't come to anything, but I just don't think it was the best game move.
Switching to the events of the Double Eviction...I was very surprised to see Neda win HOH, and I think she was as well. Both Arlie and Neda were trying to throw the competition, and we could actually hear Neda telling Arlie to choose an answer during the last round, hoping he'd get it right...and he didn't. But if you want to become HOH and not get blood on your hands, this was the perfect circumstance. The house had clear enemies in mind, and it was a Double Eviction so people weren't going to be coming to Neda to strategize and blame after this.
Arlie went in and destroyed that POV. |
The plan was clearly to backdoor Kenny all along, and with him out of the running for Veto, anyone could have won it and used it to backdoor him; it didn't need to be Arlie. And Kenny was indeed backdoored, in a surprising 5-1 vote. I suppose Rachelle's vote for Sabrina was payback for when Sabrina said she would keep Kenny over Rachelle, but Rachelle is living with Sabrina in the house after this, not Kenny; she had to know he was leaving regardless.
That's my recap for this week's events...now let's talk about my updated feelings on the Houseguests. I'll tell you what I said about them last week as well as how I feel about them now based on what I saw this week.
Adel
What I said: "Now that he's in the majority alliance, I think he's safe, especially with his emergency POV."
What I saw: Adel is safely ensconced in the middle of the majority alliance...it's going to be a quiet few weeks for him.
Sabrina
What I said: "Now that she's on the bottom, however, we may see her emotions run even higher."
What I saw: We definitely saw an intense meltdown at Allison's flip this week, and I'm sure there's only more to come from Sabrina now that's she's out of power. On the plus side for her, Kenny and Sarah were targeted over her, so maybe she'll outlast Rachelle as well.
People are going to start perceiving Jon as a threat. |
Jon
What I said: "He's fine for now, but eventually people are going to be looking at him as a huge threat."
What I saw: After a couple of stellar weeks for Jon, I think people are going to start perceiving him as a threat. And if Rachelle or Sabrina win HOH, he'll be target number one.
Kenny
What I said: "If it stays New Alliance vs. Rachelle, Allison, Sabrina, Kenny, Sarah...then Kenny is probably the next to go."
What I said: "If it stays New Alliance vs. Rachelle, Allison, Sabrina, Kenny, Sarah...then Kenny is probably the next to go."
What I saw: Kenny outlasted Sarah, but he did leave in the Double Eviction. Goodbye, Kenny.
Allison
What I said: "She's going to have a tough time in the house now that Andrew is gone. Not making friendships or alliances with anyone else is really going to hurt her."
What I saw: I was definitely wrong this time...Allison bounced back well, and I've become a much bigger fan of post-Andrew Allison. She's in a good spot right now, and her Secret Veto will aid her.
Sarah
What I said: "Sarah is on the outs of the house now."
What I saw: Another great Houseguest to be evicted...adios, Sarah.

Heather
What I said: "Heather continued playing the pawn this week and is now in the employ of the new alliance. Do your job, Heather."
What I saw: I will give credit where credit is due...Heather played a fantastic game this week. I was completely wrong about her; Heather is very smart.

Dumping out the condiments to weaken Kenny was awesome! |

Neda
What I said: "Hopefully she throws the rest of the HOH comp this week and continues playing under the radar."
What I saw: Winning HOH is not quite playing under the radar, but I thought Neda played well this week. Dumping out the condiments to weaken Kenny was awesome! Team Neda all the way!

Rachelle
What I said: "She'll go along with whatever Sabrina wants and I have 0 interest in Rachelle anymore."
What I saw: Rachelle's in the same position as before, only worse. If Sabrina is able to manipulate Rachelle enough, it will be Rachelle leaving this week instead of Sabrina.

If the Sloppy Seconds implodes, Jon and Arlie are the prime targets. |
Arlie
What I said: "I think he has what it takes to make it to the end if he can keep his many alliances in check."
What I saw: Arlie has been outed as a Sloppy Seconds member, and comes across as a big target. He's great TV, but if the Sloppy Seconds implodes, Jon and Arlie are the prime targets.

That's it for this week's recap...I'm still working on getting the Survivor podcast recorded. Hopefully I can have it by tomorrow, so stay tuned!
