The First Week of Big Brother Canada 2

I'll talk a little bit about
what went on in the house
this week.
While this blog is called Survivor Scrutiny, I'm also a big fan of both The Amazing Race and Big Brother, and as you know, we're covering BBCAN2 this season. I already wrote about my initial thoughts of the players this season, so now I'll go back, look at what I wrote, and tell you how wrong I was. I'll also make an endorsement for the 15th Houseguest.

A quick note: I don't watch the live feeds, so no spoilers please! Image credit to Slice.

Adel
I'm liking Adel much
more than I thought I would.
What I said: "Adel came off as very naive to me; the stereotypical Big Brother "bro" player...I can only see [his religion] being a bad thing for Adel, and could certainly cause some conflict in the house."
What I saw: I'm liking Adel much more than I thought I would. He seems to be smart, funny, and charismatic, and won't be as loud or troublesome as some of the other players that we have. Adel could actually get pretty far.

Sabrina
What I said: "She appears to be fairly competitive and maybe athletic, as well as energetic...Being a strong competitor and winning a lot of challenges often correlates to making it far in the game, although the wiser strategy would seem to be to lay low...She'll probably do all right but be manipulated by a smarter houseguest."
What I saw: I barely recall seeing anything of Sabrina; so far, she's a non-entity and as I said, she'll probably be manipulated by a smarter Houseguest.

Jon

What I said: "He was funny, and seems like he could be a social threat...A charismatic player, John reminds me more of Emmett than Tom, and he could go very far in this game."
What I saw: My opinions of Jon (sorry for spelling his name wrong before) were definitely supported in these last two episodes. He makes everyone laugh and has a great shot as long as people don't think he's too likeable and vote him out.

I've been Ikafied!
Kenny
What I said: "Kenny seems just a little cocky and overconfident...Even though I don't like him at the moment, that could certainly reverse as the season begins, and I think he'll do fairly well."

What I saw:
Well, that opinion did reverse...somewhat. Kenny seems to be playing a decent under-the-radar game from the little we've seen over two episodes, and he's not as arrogant as I thought. One or two more episodes like that, Kenny, and you'll win me over.

Ika

What I said: "Although I think she might lack strategy, she'll be an entertaining and huge character that will probably add a lot to the show...She's definitely going to be confrontational and will get in a lot of fights...but will probably be picked off around the start of the jury."

What I saw: I've been Ikafied! Ika is hilarious, snarky, and sassy, and really fun to have in the game. She's not afraid to speak her mind and argue with people, but she doesn't seem like she'll fly off the handle as easily as I thought she would, which bodes well for her game. After surviving a week on the block, I think Ika is in a fair position at the moment.

Paul
What I said: "He came across as a little weak and vacillating...I feel like Paul is just a nice guy who's going to wear his heart on his sleeve and get backstabbed by a more conniving player."
What I saw: Boy, was I wrong! The most manipulative and conniving player so far, Paul is in a terrible position after week one. He made some moves that did indeed work out the way he planned them, like convincing everyone to step down from the ice blocks. The problem is, those moves were the wrong moves to make. First of all, you don't want to be winning HOH the first week, and you also don't want to alienate 6 people or make others think you're devious and cunning. Paul has done all three. Overall, a terrible first HOH that resulted in an non-threat being evicted. Paul, your time in the Big Brother House is numbered...which is too bad, because I still like him.

Andrew

What I said: "Andrew seems like he'll be able to read people pretty easily...but the other vibe I picked up from him was that he was a little full of himself. If Andrew is determined to be the star of the show and win competitions, it's unlikely he can save himself from being backdoored at some point..."

[Andrew' will] have to use those
people skills of his to turn
things around quickly.
What I saw: Both depictions of Andrew seem to be accurate. He's a smart guy, but he handled himself poorly on the first few nights, although he did survive nomination by winning the POV, which could have put a target on his back. He'll have to use those people skills of his to turn things around quickly.

Sarah
What I said: "Right off the bat Sarah comes off as sassy...I think she'll be another huge personality in the house, and also seems very smart...I'm going to lean towards how Sarah would do in a conventional season, which is quite poorly."
What I saw: Sarah is indeed sassy and a big personality, at least in confessionals, but to the other Houseguests, see
ms to be a normal mom-type player. She cried when Paul read his letter and quickly forgave him for his lies (or was that Sabrina? I can't remember.) and I don't think she's a threat to anyone. I still don't think Sarah can last that long, though.

Crazy! Crazy crazy crazy!
Anick is insane.
Anick
What I said: "Kind of the ditsy peson who doesn't have much of a clue about what's really going on? Anick won't be playing strategically...Her claims of extreme spirituality serve to further highlight her naivete."
What I saw: Crazy! Crazy crazy crazy! Anick is insane. If she could have toned down the spiritual vibes, she might have stood a chance, but Anick is the first Houseguest evicted. Not sad to see her go. We won't spend much time on her because she's gone.

Heather
What I said: "Is Heather our "hot girl/model-type" for the season?...The second person evicted is always a model. So even though I think Heather could float along aimlessly this season, I predict 2nd boot.
What I saw: Not too
much from Heather, although she did win $1000. She seems to be fitting the hot girl stereotype well so far, although I can't tell whether she's a schemer or a dummy yet. Will the model curse hold true? We'll have to wait and see.

Neda

What I said: "Finally! Here's some real talent! I'm going to call it right now: Neda is my winner for Big Brother Canada Season 2...Neda says all the right things...that pegs her as the smartest player this season."

What I saw: I am a huge Neda fan. She's playing a great UTR (under-the-radar) game so far, and she just needs to keep it up. The one slip up she made was when she said that she doesn't trust Paul, but Neda backpeddled and covered things up like a pro, and she wasn't nominated, so I think she's fine. Let's go Neda!

Arlie

What I said: "He just seems like a generic "longtime fan of Big Brother." The best comparison (purely from his fan status and way of speaking) is Eric Stein...????...I don't know...it's all there, but I'm just not feeling it..."

What I saw: I like Arlie. He's funny and fairly smart, so I think he can blend into the background for now and coast for a while. Also, he definitely talks like Eric Stein.

Kyle
What I said: "Probably the dumbest player in the Big Brother house this season...Kyle is unimaginative, not strategic, and will bring nothing to BBCAN this season."

[Kyle] is pretty dumb, but amazingly,
not the one making the terrible moves.
What I saw: He is pretty dumb, but amazingly, not the one making the terrible moves (those honors belong to Paul and Andrew). A little better at the game than I thought. I retract some of the things I said about Kyle; he can be funny at times, and might last a while if he doesn't prove to be a physical threat.

Rachelle
What I said: "She seemed very poised and composed, and could give Neda a run for her money...I'm definitely liking Rachelle, and although she didn't wow me like Neda, she's at least on par with John and should go far this season."
What I saw: Not much from Rachelle these past few days, although I don't think she's quite the smart cookie I pegged her to be. She could still be a physical powerhouse, and seems intelligent, but Rachelle is not there to play the game or strategize as much as Neda.

The 15th Houseguest
What I said: "I have no doubt that it will be Canada who'll be given some sort of voting power in the house, and would personally be shocked and pleasantly surprised if another houseguests enters. "

 I have decided to endorse
the hilarious and entertaining
Scott, the drag queen.
What I saw: I am indeed pleasantly surprised that we have three interesting Houseguests to choose from. The whole twist of blindfolding Scott, Nate, and Allison and isolating them in the War Room for a week was really well executed, in my opinion.

Nate is a bit of a let down compared to the other two, I would say. He's fairly entertaining, but in a competition where we have to vote, he's not interesting enough. Plus, he raises his eyebrow whenever he talks. Just saying. Go look at his cast video. It's true, huh?

I was liking Allison at first, but after looking at her video, she's also not fun enough to justify her entrance into the house, even though I think she could be one of the best players in there. Besides, I don't want anyone competing with my girl Neda. So, after careful consideration, I have decided to endorse the hilarious and entertaining Scott, the drag queen.

I've posted Scott's YouTube video below, and I highly encourage you to vote for him. Alright, so that's it for this week's recap of Big Brother Canada. Next week will be a more traditional play-by-play analysis of the episodes. We're going to have a new HOH, new nominations, a POV, and another live eviction to talk about next Friday, so stay tuned!
